Description
This document describes:

1) How to check if the is system is powered on via -
- ipmitool
- ELOM web GUI
- Service Processor CLI
2) If you are local to the server



Steps to Follow
Instructions to verify system power remotely via ipmitool, elom gui, cli.

Verify system power status is ON via ipmitool.

  • Run ipmitool from a remote system to ELOM Service Processor with the command shown in the example below. Check the first field "System Power" in the output. If the status is off, this means the system is not powered on. If off and you expect it to be on, then refer to: <Document: 1012992.1> "How to check why the system is powered off, on Sun Fire X2100 M2/X2200 M2 Servers".
         # ipmitool -I lanplus -U root -H <ELOM IP address> chassis status
System Power         : on
Power Overload       : false
Power Interlock      : inactive
Main Power Fault     : false
Power Control Fault  : false
Power Restore Policy : always-off
Last Power Event     :
Chassis Intrusion    : inactive
Front-Panel Lockout  : inactive
Drive Fault          : false
Cooling/Fan Fault    : false
Front Panel Control  : none 

Verify system power status is ON via ELOM GUI

  • Open ELOM Service Processor GUI, to access enter https://<ELOM IP address> in a supported browser.
  • After you have logged into the Service Processor
  • Depending of the ELOM version installed on your system, you will find the power status on the following pages:
    • Click "Status" button which will automatically open the "Summery" page. This contains the "Power Status" of the platform for example power on.
    • Click "Server Monitoring" -> "Sensor Reading" -> "Summary" tab which contains the "Power Status" of the platform for example power on.

If OFF and you expect it to be ON, then refer to: <Document: 1012992.1> "How to check why the system is powered off, on Sun Fire X2100 M2/X2200 M2 Servers".

Refer to Embedded Lights Out Manager Administration Guide For ELOM for your platform and ELOM version. Also see ELOM Administration Guide Supplement for Sun Fire if available for your platform at:

Verify system power status is ON via the Service Processor Command Line (CLI)

  • Log in to the Service Processor using the SSH command. NOTE: You will need the IP address of the Service Processor to do this:
         # ssh -l <USERNAME> <IP_ADDRESS>
  • Once logged in enter the following command to check power status
         -> show /SP/SystemInfo/CtrlInfo 
          /SP/SystemInfo/CtrlInfo
Targets: 
            Properties:
PowerStatus = on
PowerCtrl = (Cannot show property)
BootCtrl = regular
IdLedCtrl = off 
  • Look for the "PowerStatus" property in the Properties field in the output this will show the platform power state. If OFF and you expect it to be ON, then refer to : <Document: 1012992.1> "How to check why the system is powered off, on Sun Fire X2100 M2/X2200 M2 Servers".

Verifying system power if you are local to the server.

  • Verify that the Power OK LED from the front or rear is illuminated either STEADY GREEN (ON) If SLOW BLINK GREEN (OFF) Power available or if not illuminated and you expect it to be ON, refer to: <Document: 1012992.1> : "How to check why the system is powered off, on Sun Fire X2100 M2/X2200 M2 Servers".
