GoalHow to replace a V245 HDDSolution*DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS*WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:(IS A SITE ENGINEER AVAILABLE?) HDD replacement on SPARC systems DELIVERY REQUIREMENT: As scheduled *FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS* PROBLEM OVERVIEW: Faulty Disk WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? : The operating system should be configured by the customer such that the disk drive is free for replacement. e.g. The disk may be part of Solaris Volume Manager, Veritas Volume Manager, mounted file-system, raw partitions, etc. A data backup may be required to restore data onto a replaced disk. If a data backup is not required it is still a wise precaution. WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE: 1. Identify the hard drive to be removed and note the bay in which it is installed 2. Remove the hard drive from the device tree using the following command: # cfgadm -c unconfigure c1::dsk/c1t3d0 where c1t3d0 is the name of the hard drive to be removed. The blue OK to Remove hard drive indicator lights. 3. Allow the disk to spin down completely. 4. Physically remove the hard drive from the system. 5. Insert the hard drive into its bay. 6. Configure the new hard drive using this command: # cfgadm -c configure /dev/rdsk/c1t3d0 where c1t3d0 is the name of the hard drive to be removed.
